The renovated central hotel in Koper, for lovers of beautiful and modern design, opened its doors at the end of May 2021. The inspiration for the renovation was drawn primarily from the history of this mighty building, and the desire is that, due to its strategic position, it will become the focal point of the Koper seaside center – not only for its visitors, but also for everyone else, because Grand Koper writes many other stories in addition to its hotel offer. It is located just 10 minutes away from the Bonifika sports park.
Grand Koper is like a kind of city within a city: in addition to the hotel rooms, its important parts are a restaurant, pizzeria, café, evening bar, and coworking spaces are also available… The wish remains that Grand Koper (again) becomes a place for socializing – not only for hotel guests, i.e. business people, tourists and visitors, but also for the local population. In this way, they revive its past connecting spirit, change the myths about the hotel as a closed space, and above all, build on openness at all levels.
The hotel was revived by AKSL architects, and David Tavčar took care of the interesting patterns hidden everywhere. The new overall image of the hotel refers to history, but it is not nostalgic in this respect, nor can we say that it is a retro or modernist image, because it is in fact completely postmodern, and as such can only exist in the present day. Postmodernism is manifested in the use of modernist archetypes of the last century (tapestry, plates on the walls, carpets, rugs, symbols of holiday cards, graphics, etc.), but in a way that adapts to today’s times.
